Drawing has always been my primary artistic output. When I hold a pencil in my hand, I feel like the weight of the world is lifted from me even for a little while.
Since I’ve been a freelance illustrator/pin-up artist now, I needed to find another hobby that does the same thing.
And photography has been that before.
Photography is what it is again.

First off, I know this topic is so way out of what the general subject of this blog, but I felt that I needed to post this for those who might have encountered or will encounter the same thing I had.
I’ve had my Powerbook G4 since 2005. I bought it from a friend who had it since October of 2004. A few days ago, while using it to browse and answer e-mails, I suddenly smelled something burning, and when I looked, it was my power adapter’s cable sparking and plastic white cover melting. Its basically similar to what happened to this guy.
I called up a local Apple Store to see if it can be fixed, but they will always recommend you buy a replacement. A new one costs about $79 US. Here around 6,500 in Philippine peso. And from what I’ve read, there’s no guarantee that the new one I get won’t do the same. So what’s a guy to do in this situation?
I searched the ‘net, and found one blogger who had the same thing happened to him (twice!) and he graciously posted how he fixed his. So following his example, I will post my own version of repairing this defective adapter. Continue reading »

Now this is something that just boggles my mind whenever I encounter it.
To those who don’t know, I run a forum site for budding illustrators who wants to pick my brain and others on the field of comic book-style illustration and pinup (generally) and to better improve themselves and their craft.
Whenever a new member asks me a particular question on, let’s say, drawing hands, I often first ask that I see a sample on how they do it themselves so that I can better assess their skill and thus give them the appropriate advice.
But they tell me that they don’t have a scanner for them to transfer their pencilled images to the computer. Now why is that? I know that some prefer to be purely a digital artist (meaning all their sketches and doodles are directly done using a tablet and a graphics program), but if these individuals can afford to buy a tablet, why not a scanner?
I cannot imagine my work without a scanner as part of my arsenal. Its the first thing I bought right after I built my first PC. During my time, scanners are a bit expensive, but I managed to get one. Now, there are alot of very affordable scanner devices out there.
I, myself, own a Canon™ Lide 25 scanner. Its cheap and it works for me in dealing with transferring my pencils to Photoshop™. I bought mine at around $52 US. That’s how cheap it is, and it works for me.
So I got to ask, in this world of digital art, why don’t you own a scanner?

Rumors have been flying in and around the internet since early last year about this so-called hybrid of the iPod. And now Steve Jobs announces it during the Macworld Conference and Expo 2007.
The iPhone. A mobile phone that’s also a web browser (among other things) with a 4GB or 8GB memory. Oh yeah, it also plays music.
Well, as much as I love my Powerbook and my iPod, and Apple in general, this is one product that won’t be part of my arsenal.
Everyone who has known me or have been following me throughout my online life knows that I am fond of my iPod. I had the 4th gen Photo which I sold to my sister and got myself a 5th Gen in black. Everyone who knows me will tell you that I can’t function right without music streaming through my ears. Its just the way I concentrate. And mp3 players just made it that easier for me.
All I can say is, if I wanted to have a phone that plays music, I’d probably bought one of those Walkman phones from Sony Ericsson. But I like my music player and my phone to be separate entities. But seeing its from Apple, to anyone who is into the hybrid gadgets, its definitely a good product to have.

My iPod is still better than Zune.

The Zune simply zucks.
